On Saturday, May 18th, the Pittsburgh Warriors, friends, and supporters took to the Montour Trail starting at mile 8.5 at Altered Genius Trailside Taproom and ending at mile 19.5 for a 22-mile morning ride dedicated to raising awareness of the the national statistic of 22 veteran suicides a day. The event was catered by Bar 31, which is owned by none other than Penguins goalie alum Kenny Wregget.
We dedicated today's ride to Cpl Lester Roque, a combat medic killed in action in 2007 in Afghanistan. The Pittsburgh Warriors annual Healing Ride fundraiser will take place from June 15-22, during which a group of cyclists will ride 334.5 miles from Point State Park in Pittsburgh, PA to Mile 0 of the GAP and C&O Towpath trails in Washington D.C. Each day's ride will be dedicated to a fallen soldier. During the ride, we will be raising awareness of the 22 veteran suicides a day and hoping to gather donations for the Pittsburgh Warriors to continue our mission of helping disabled veterans #HealThruHockey. Altered Genius is also running a special beer release in support of Pittsburgh Warriors Hockey. Sales from Hero, a light balanced pale ale, for the months of May and June will benefit Pittsburgh Warriors.
